Despite industry recognition, Ontario wines are often overlooked in favour of Old World labels, where history acts as a signal of quality. Henry of Pelham wanted to prove its own depth of heritage to wine lovers who influence taste and conversation. Rather than talk about its history, the brand used it as the medium. “The Wine Archive” transformed 200 years of winemaking into a limited-edition series of 50 bottles, each featuring a photographic label developed using the winery’s own wines through an experimental process. Artifacts from the estate’s past, including tools and personal objects, were shot on film, then processed with wine, embedding the product directly into the image. The labels were built as tactile objects, using layered materials, binding techniques and hand-finishing, including wax-dipped seals and individual numbering. The work extended into an immersive launch, where the winery’s barrel cellar became a functioning darkroom, inviting influencers to develop images using wine. By turning heritage into something physical and participatory, the campaign reframed how quality could be seen – not just in the glass, but in the story behind it.
