"Write for Rights"
Cossette
Amnesty International’s annual Write for Rights campaign has a proven track record: it’s helped secure the release of more than 75% of supported prisoners. But the impact of a single letter can still feel abstract. To make that impact visible, “Write for Rights” transformed real success stories into striking typographic portraits, recreating archival images of prisoners’ release using only typewritten text. Each piece was meticulously crafted on a typewriter with artist James Cook, incorporating excerpts from the very letters that contributed to those outcomes, reinforcing the idea that words themselves are a tool for change. The campaign helped connect participation to tangible results, including the release of activist Sonia Dahmani and renewed legal movement in the case of Juan López.
