2025 Winner

CNESST is a government organization that ensures workers in Quebec know their rights when it comes to labour standards, pay equity and occupational health and safety. Its “Hanging By a Thread” spot features crocheted characters working in an office. The main character, who has a thread hanging loose at the back of his head, is bullied by colleagues, ignored during meetings and left out of lunch gatherings. As he walks from one room to another, the loose thread is caught in a door and begins to unravel, until only an outline of him remains. When he steps into an elevator and the door closes, the thread is severed. The one-minute spot makes the point that “Psychological health can hang by a thread.” It took 13 weeks of production, seven puppets, seven environments, 2,400 metres of wool, 340 hours of animation and
3,575 images to create the film.
