2024 Winner

White Ribbon, an organization that combats gender-based violence, and Bensimon Byrne launched “Short Life Stories” to show how members of the trans community – who are typically late in starting their lives as their true selves – have their lives shortened due to intolerance and hate. In fact, 70% of trans youth face sexual harassment or violence.

To foster empathy and allyship, the film depicts the trans experience, highlighting bravery, obstacles and joy, which is often stripped away. The film served as the campaign centrepiece, launched during Trans Awareness Week, and continues to be used in workshops nationwide, while UNESCO is using the film to promote
trans rights globally.
