"Writing Lights the Way"
Cossette
Amnesty International’s “Write for Rights” annual campaign urges the public to participate in their letter-writing marathon to support individuals and communities facing human rights violations. This year, Amnesty International Canada Francophone launched “Writing Lights the Way” by Cossette. The campaign features illustrations that depict characters in ominous settings. They hold letters that act as beacons of hope, with light emanating from the letters in the shape of a pencil tip. The symbol of the pencil emphasizes how letter-writing can save lives. The illustrations were inspired by real victims of injustice: Ahmed Mansoor, an Emirati writer imprisoned for defending human rights; Justyna Wydrzy ska, a Polish activist convicted for supporting abortion rights; and the Wet’suwet’en community opposing a gas pipeline project.
