Sex traffickers often go online to recruit victims. With “Sky Trafficking,” by No Fixed Address, The Jensen Project aimed to educate girls in Texas – 79,000 children are currently victims of sex trafficking – about this lurid practice by sharing the phrases typically used to manipulate targets.
Using skywriting planes, real recruitment messages were displayed in skies across major cities over the course of a day, so girls would be able to recognize the tactics and verbiage used to manipulate them. Messages such as “No one has to know” and “Who’s gonna believe you?” show how communication becomes increasingly intense. Terms for each message were bought on Google Search, which directed to a dedicated website to show how to identify traffickers online.
