The Royal Canadian Legion
"Advertising Blackout"
VML
Every year on Remembrance Day, The Royal Canadian Legion asks the public to take a moment of silence to honour soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our country. But with November 11th falling on a weekend in 2023, there was concern the day
would be forgotten.

To remind Canadians to observe a moment of silence, the “Advertising Blackout” campaign, by VML, darkened digital billboards, transit ads and screens in public spaces nationwide and displayed the message “Lest We Forget” beside the poppy symbol from 11:00 a.m. to 11:02 a.m. Major media partners also supported the initiative by donating advertising space.
