CASE SUMMARY

Those who visited the Canadian Centre for Child Protection’s Instagram-worthy pop-up were unaware of the disturbing meaning of the word Lollipop: used by sex offenders to describe victims of child pornography. The non-profit needed a provocative way to break through the unease and discomfort that has silenced Canadians and policy makers on the issue of child pornography, so agency No Fixed Address rolled out “Lolli: The Exhibit Nobody Wants to Talk About.” The four-day pop-up featured 10,824 lollipops – one for each new image of child pornography detected every 12 hours – along with disturbing facts about the scope of the problem and survivor testimonies. The campaign captured the attention of national and international media, as well as Toronto mayor John Tory, resulting in 125 million impressions globally for a campaign with no media budget.
