CASE SUMMARY
Having come from Japan, Sapporo typically plays up its East origins. But it wanted to be consumed in places beyond Japanese dining rooms and it also wanted to remove itself from associations with sumo, samurai and dragons. Working with The&Partnership, Sapporo found its place in both Canadian and Japanese culture. As the agency found out on a trip to Tokyo, the East tends to collide with the West, as the Japanese find Western culture fascinating, and vice versa. Using this as inspiration, the team created a branded content series, called “East meets West,” exploring different aspects of western culture through stories of Japanese artisans who share their passion, such as a rock n’ roll musician who likens the greasing of his hair to a samurai tying his top knot.Credits
