CASE SUMMARY

When Canadian Tire set out to create a winter wonderland for its heartwarming Christmas commercial, it had to overcome one hurdle: the company had to shoot the ad in Toronto in August. Working with post-production shop Alter Ego, the brand was able to bring its vision to life using special effects and machine-generated snow. The final spot features a sleepy mountainside town with a Canadian Tire at its centre. Set to a cover of the song “Love is All Around,” it shows a young tobogganer witnessing an old man and his dog struggling to make their way through the snow, and decides to give them a lift on his sled. The scene was captured using a pulley system (and a real dog), and it ends with the boy watching the old man delivering gifts to his family.
