It’s easy to ignore some of Canada’s most pressing social issues. Poverty, domestic abuse and unemployment can be dismissed by those lucky enough to avoid these problems. In an effort to engage Canadians, the United Way partnered with The Pantone Institute to create a unique, eye-catching hue – in fact, “the brightest colour in the world.” This distinct neon orange was then given to illustrator Malika Favre for a series of simple, beautiful art pieces that would form the backbone of the “#Unignorable” campaign. Each one expresses, without words, a critical community served by the United Way. The hairline of a woman’s profile is shaped like a screaming face to highlight domestic abuse. A bedroll on a park bench sits above the shadow of a homeless person. A figure hanging from the tassel of a graduation cap highlights post-secondary dropout rates.
