Many cats seem to hate car rides in carrier crates, so owners avoid taking them to the vet as a result. To encourage healthier felines, Whiskas worked with a composer with the National Symphony Orchestra to create music that would help cats on the road. Custom streaming radio channels were developed to soothe different breeds using instruments, bird chirps, suckling sounds and lower frequency drones. A study conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison found that cats showed interest in their species-specific tunes. More than 10,000 unique audio streams were tracked, and national sales jumped 3% after the campaign. The “buy now” conversion rate online was five times higher than average during the campaign. Every dollar spent on “Cat Calming Radio” yielded $18 in return.
