Telus’ mass advertising has traditionally focused on “rock stars,” but rock ‘n roll wasn’t culturally relevant to the Chinese and South Asian communities it wanted to reach. So video and online ads swapped in some culturally relevant tunes (i.e. Bollywood for Indian audiences) and some new lingo (instead of “rock,” it used “dhoom”) to make sure the message that Telus was awesome came through with no distortion.
