To promote the new Walking Dead scratch card, Loto-Québec “hijacked” the security cameras in local convenience stores. Displayed on the Loto-Québec digital board at counters, the footage showed a man browsing the beer section before a zombie approaches him from behind. The footage then cuts out to another section of the store, before eventually going back to the man now missing from the aisle. The zombie jumps out on the screen and promotes the new line of scratch cards. The stunt was so convincing, in fact, that the company had to pull the plug after some customers thought it was too scary.
