To help swing the election vote, B.C.’s NDP party targeted a strong Liberal hold – ethnic voters. Always a hot-button topic in the province, housing was a central pillar in the NDP’s campaign, pointing to the governing party as having ignored the issue for far too long. To attract Chinese, Korean and Filipino voters, the political party rolled out a print campaign featuring a cardboard box dressed like an apartment, with the copy: “BC Liberals government has turned a blind eye to housing issues, allowing home prices to go through the roof and out of control. One day all we can afford is this card box? Christy Clark, a premier who will not care about your needs. If you want a roof over your head, vote BC NDP!” The party went on to win a minority government.
