As part of the 2017 provincial election, the B.C. NDP wanted to paint the ruling Liberal party as a little dodgy following an RCMP investigation into questionable corporate donations. With this “stink” around them, the NDP rolled out print ads targeting Chinese, Korean and Filipino voters by demonstrating that “sweet smell of success” using cigarettes stuffed into a perfume bottle, with the headline “The Liberals made themselves look good on the outside, but inside it’s “black smoke and poison gas,” which in Chinese translates to “a mess.”
