To encourage businesses to patch their printer software for potential security risks, HP profiled Canada’s most notorious internet hacker, Michael Calce. The brand created a documentary that follows “Mafia boy,” the Montreal hacker who took down major websites when he was just 15-years-old. Now the owner of a white hat hacking firm, Calce works with companies to identify risks to their network and has begun travelling the world to give talks on printer security on behalf of HP. Rivolta was the first brand-associated film to be shown at Hot Docs, and the campaign led to a 147% increase in printer security sales for HP, outperforming another U.S. campaign that starred Christian Slater hot off his Mr. Robot spot.
