Woman: I know I’m not just imagining that I’m being interrupted by men over and over and over again because studies prove over and over and over again that men interrupt women three times more than they do other men and it has nothing to do with who you are or what you do because you see it in everything from casual conversations to award show acceptance speeches to presidential debates and if you don’t believe me then why does research show that men dominate 75% of the conversation during meetings or that female doctors get interrupted twice as often by their patients and this isn’t just in our heads but a symptom of a deeply ingrained prejudice society has about gender that we must confront because I am tired of being talked over every five seconds and having my ideas ignored overly scrutinized and overtaken simply because a woman had them to the point that if I want to speak without being interrupted I’m told I need to talk more like a man and communicate decisively and say things like “I know” instead of “I feel” or that I couldn’t pause even once while saying all this because there’s more than a good chance someone’s just going to interrupt me.
