To build empathy for refugees and address xenophobia towards those who have crossed Canada’s borders, the Canadian Labour Congress decided to put people in the shoes of refugees fleeing war-torn countries and being separated from their loved ones. It created a virtual reality experience (as well as a companion smartphone video) that recreated the actual, everyday (often horrific) realities many displaced persons live through.
