To promote Oliver Stone’s Snowden - a film about the famous U.S. intelligence whistleblower - Elevation Studios set up a surveillance trap in the middle of Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square, one of Canada’s busiest public areas. During the Toronto International Film Festival, the company used motion-tracking cameras and software (the same technology that was exposed by Snowden) fixed on specific pedestrians and then broadcast their images to a large digital billboard in the square.
