CASE SUMMARY

At almost every strategy Agency of the Year gala, Zulu Alpha Kilo addresses industry pain-points in its agency showreel. This year, it set holding cos in its sights with “Billy’s Lemonade Stand,” which tells the story of a young boy – a thriving lemonade entrepreneur – who sells his stand to a New York holding company. Soon, Billy is forced to make concessions, raising fees and switching to pre-packaged lemonade powder and cups that are 80% smaller. Upper brass even force the boy to fire his sister, who doesn’t “add value” to the business. Eventually, the changes drive clients away, business suffers and Billy is ousted from his own stand. The satirical take on the industry closes on a cheerier note: “Here’s to all the independents.”
