Without a simple way for a woman to self-check her ovaries, ovarian cancer has earned the nickname “the silent killer.” To bring the issue to light, Ovarian Cancer Canada positioned the organs as the natural counterpart to testicles – introducing the term “Ladyballs.” TV and OOH ads positioned “Ladyballs” as a term for strength and courage, and press coverage followed. Controversy over the term (should a distinctly female problem be identified in male terms?) helped fuel the discussion, bringing the topic of ovarian cancer out of the shadows.
